The Loop Shuttle Bus extension

Willoughby City Council introduced a free shuttle bus service titled 'The Loop' in May 2009 to provide employees in the Artarmon Industrial Area with a transport link to and from St Leonards station on week days. The success of this service resulted in spare bus capacity during off-peak periods being used to trial additional routes to service residential areas not regularly services by existing bus routes. The aim is to link local communities with existing Council services such as libraries, the Leisure Centre, parks and other shopping villages.

The Loop extension was introduced from 27 April 2010 for a three month trial period, with one of five different routes being services on each week day. Castlecrag is serviced on Tuesdays as part of a loop from Northbridge to Willoughby East and return via Castlecrag. The service runs every 45 minutes between 10.30am and 5.15pm over the anti-clockwise route shown on the map. The Thursday service, running to the same times, operated between Northbridge and Castle Cove via Middle Cove and Eastern Valley Way.

These free bus services operate on a hail-and-ride basis. Pick-up and set down is from existing bus stops where they are available, but in other areas the bus may be hailed from any location on the route where it can be safely and legally stopped. Timetables and route maps are available on the Council website and printed copies are available at Council and branch libraries, including our local library.

These services will initially be trialed for a minimum of three months before they are evaluated. Council is seeking feedback on the services from residents, either by phoning 9777 1000 or emailing email@willoughby.nsw.gov.au
